Experienced Force.com Developer Wanted !

Are you passionate about developing cool yet useful web applications in an agile approach? You are an experienced Force.com developer, who is now looking for a fun and exciting startup to join? Read on…

About us

Handy Elephant is developing a productivity app for business professionals who have to maintain a large number of relationships across multiple channels (e.g. Phone, SMS, Email, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook).

Handy Elephant is like a Personal Assistant that tells users: (1) who they need to follow up with, (2) when the best time is to get in touch, (3) which channel will be most effective.

With our sophisticated data extraction and data warehousing technology, we deliver a user experience which is highly,

  • automated (no time wasted on manual data input)
  • seamless (Handy Elephant hooks into your daily routine)
  • proactive (if things are about to get worse, Handy Elephant will let you know)

With Handy Elephant, users can spend more time on generating business, and less time on managing contacts or data.

We are based located in Cambridge (UK) and have just been accepted into a Silicon Valley based Startup Accelerator. We pioneered Personal Relationship Management apps on Android, and our current beta app reached a 4 star rating (check it out here).

We have also released a funky Gmail app, that gives you an overview over all those emails that you sent, but the recipient never replied to. We have gathered plenty of user feedback and want to push things forward with an integrated system.

Why should you want to work with us?

  • Exciting technology, which sits in the intersection of Social Networks, Mobile apps, Data Warehousing and Social Psychology. If any of that excited you, you can put your passion and ideas into practice!
  • Beautiful Location, as our office is in the heart of Cambridge with an awesome view. Cambridge is well known for its vibrant startup, investor and developer community – and a great place to live! Compared to London, you can cycle or jog to work, rather than commute with trains ;)
  • Spend 10% of your time on “building relationships” like all of us do. That could mean being active in local developer groups, stackoverflow, contributing to an open-source project or writing a blog – it’s your choice.
  • Optionally , come with us to Silicon Valley next year, to join the start up accelerator, and explore the start-up capital of the world.
  • Plus, we are funded, so you will get a salary plus stock options that will give you a piece of the growing Handy Elephant cake.

About the position

We are doing very well with our Android app, but are now looking for an entrepreneurially minded software engineer with plenty of experience on the Force.com platform. You will have full ownership of your work and the freedom to execute it how you think it makes sense, as long as it helps the company grow quickly while remaining a credible service for our customers. Starting with us at this early stage, we are happy to treat you like a co-founder of the company, if you share our enthusiasm and commitment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritising development stories with our small development team of 4 in an agile approach, where sustainable quality and speed of the execution matter. Regarding other organisational stuff, think stand-up meetings, pair programming, automated testing and discussion of customer feedback.
  • Hands-on development with the rest of the team. If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, this role is not for you.
  • Designing the system architecture based on the user requirements, and with an eye on our capabilities.
  • Ownership of the Force.com / Salesforce integration of our web app. Wider ownership (web service, web app, Android app) depends on experience.

The current requirement specification includes web services and API design, REST, OAuth, Data Warehousing, Data Mining, caching, cloud hosting, JavaScript / jQuery and the of course the Force.com platform.

As a special challenge, you will have to familiarise yourself with (and apply) theories about social and network analysis as well as human decision making (part of our “secret sauce”). The position requires analytical as well as creative thinking, always with a strong focus efficiency and providing value to our customers.

There are no fixed working hours (though full-time commitment is expected) and you will be able to choose when and how you can achieve the most.

About you

Does this sound exciting? Then you should definitely get in touch with us. Ideally you tick many of the following boxes:

  • Experience with testing, preferably even TDD, continuous deployment and the likes.

  • You are entitled to work in the UK without any sponsorship.
  • lives in (or is willing to relocate / commute daily to) beautiful Cambridge, UK.
